Gender Equality Network Advocacy

Through the Gender Equality Network Canada (GENC), over 150 women leaders are working together to advance gender equality in Canada.

Policy work by GENC leaders has occurred through Policy Ask Working Groups developing detailed asks on systemic gender equality issues and topics, including:

Other actions:

February 2019: The Feminist Alliance for International Action (FAFIA) invited GENC leaders to endorse their open letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, which urged him to take action to end sex discrimination in the Indian Act.

January 2018: GENC leaders working on sexual assault submitted recommendations for the Federal Government response to the #MeToo movement

July 2018: Many GENC leaders and their local organizations cosigned an open letter from WomanACT to Lisa Thompson, Ontario Minister of Education, protesting repeal of Ontario’s Sexual Health Education Curriculum.

September 2017: Network members call for “reset” of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
