Sage Inc., Charlottetown (2007) $23,000
Many women with intellectual disabilities experience sexual abuse as children and as adults, yet receive little support. “Empowering Women Survivors with Intellectual Disabilities" helps women address their past experience and learn skills for being safe in the present. Resources are customized with imagery and plain language to address literacy needs. Part of the funding is being used for transportation costs, support for the hearing and visually-impaired, literacy support and physical accessibility issues. It’s anticipated that 25 women will participate in the program.

PEI Rape & Sexual Assault Crisis Centre, Charlottetown: $20,000 (2006)
"Enhanced Crisis Support through Effective Volunteer Training" provides follow-up counselling and support for women who have survived sexual violence. The initiative focuses on diversity, inclusion, and differing experiences of violence through the lenses of gender, race, ability, age, sexuality, and culture.

Voices for Children Coalition Inc., Montague: $10,000 (2005)
The ESP (Equal, Safe and Proud) is an after-school group for girls aged 13 to 15. The Participants learn about equality, healthy relationships and personal safety. CWF funds will be used to support the development of a program sustainability plan and the hiring of a youth leader who will develop an evaluation plan. In addition, weekly group sessions will be held with youth to design and develop program goals.

Native Council of PEI, Charlottetown: $25,000 (2004)
The goal of this initiative is to develop an Aboriginal Community Support Worker program, which will provide culturally sensitive support for women, children and teens experiencing domestic violence. Participants will be offered group support and educational workshops. The project will begin with women and teens staying at the women’s shelter and will expand out to Aboriginal women and teens in the community. A resource manual and brochure for staff and residents will also be developed.
