Actua, National Girls’ Program
2009-2012: $120,000 over three years
Actua is a national network of organizations that offer science, technology and engineering programs to young people in over 450 communities across the country. Actua’s National Girls’ Program gives 3,000 girls a year the opportunity to experience the wonders of science, engineering and technology in a positive, all-girl environment, through summer camps, girls’ clubs and workshops. Girls learn more about the world around them, increase their skills and confidence, and meet new friends.
Funding from CWF supports member training, resource development and sharing, mentor engagement, and member collaboration.
Girls Action Foundation, National Network
2009-2012: $120,000 over three years
The Girls Action Foundation (Fondation filles d’action) inspires and supports the empowerment, leadership and healthy development of girls across Canada. Their innovative programs address violence prevention, community engagement, media literacy education, health promotion, anti-racism and healthy sexuality.
Funding from CWF supports the National Network (an interconnected web of people doing work for and by girls), which allows members to share resources, skills and expertise across regions; advance awareness and understanding of issues facing girls and young women; and ensure the ongoing presence of empowerment, leadership and violence prevention initiatives for girls and young women.

Currently running in Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan and British Columbia
Actua offers excellent programs in science and technology to children. The National Girls’ Program offers girls the opportunity to experience the wonders of science, engineering and technology in a positive, all-girl environment, through summer camps, girls’ clubs and workshops. Girls learn more about the world around them, increase their skills and confidence, and meet new friends. This grant will strengthen and expand Girls’ Clubs at three sites in Halifax, Nova Scotia; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and Victoria, British Columbia.
Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS), On the Move
2006-2009: $75,000 over three years
Currently running in Alberta, New Brunswick and Newfoundland
CAAWS is a national organization working to ensure that girls and women have access to a complete range of opportunities and choices, and have equity as participants and leaders in sport and physical activity. On the Move is a fun, girl-directed, sport and physical activity program aimed at reaching inactive girls who have either never had an experience in sport, or who have had a negative experience. The CWF grant supports three On the Move program sites: Miramichi, New Brunswick; St John’s, Newfoundland; and Calgary, Alberta.
National
Network Grants
Actua, National Girls’ Program
2006-2009: $45,000 over three years
Actua is a national organization offering excellent science and technology programs through its 27 university and college-based member programs. This network grant supports the creation of resources for parental involvement, the modification and delivery of a gender equity training module, and the sharing of best practices. These activities will develop and enhance the existing member network, and other girl-specific programs in Canada.
Power Camp National
2006-2009: $75,000 over three years
Power Camp National is a network of almost 70 members, representing individuals and organizations interested in girls’ programming. It is a leader among girl-focused organizations and provides support and resources to strengthen programming. Power Camp has identified the need for strategies to increase participation of northern, Aboriginal, Maritime and francophone communities in the Power Camp network. This network grant will be used to develop these strategies and organize regional meetings to share knowledge and approaches to girl-specific programming.
