Michael Kimmel in Toronto
At the 2016 Toronto Breakfast, Michael Kimmel, a bestselling author and the SUNY Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Gender Studies at Stony Brook University, shared his findings on the impacts of hyper-masculinity and how gender equality is good for everyone—men included
Kimmel is the author of more than 20 books, including Manhood in America, Angry White Men, The Politics of Manhood, The Gendered Society, and the best seller Guyland: The Perilous World Where Boys Become Men. In 2013, he founded the Center for the Study of Men and Masculinities at Stony Brook with funding from the MacArthur Foundation; Jane Fonda, Gloria Steinem, and Eve Ensler are on the Board of Directors. In 2017, the Center plans to start offering a master’s degree in masculinity studies, the first in the world.
